About Our Custom-Made Boat

Explore the majestic sea in our custom-made Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and experience 400 horsepower of pure Yamaha force.

Our expert captains, while still respecting safety norms for whale watching in Cabo, will get up and close to the whales without having to wait. Plus, with a hydrophone on board, you'll be able to listen in on whale conversations as they roam their natural habitats. And, if it's quiet out there, we've got recordings from previous days ready for playback.

Our RIB is a style of boat that’s normally reserved for those in law enforcement, rescue, and research. Ours was custom-built by Apex Boats specifically for marine wildlife observation.

That means that they are nimble and can easily follow the whales in their natural habitat. Don't forget to bring along your camera and a hat that won’t fly away in the strong wind. Also, slather on some sunblock before the tour, as the sun in Mexico is very strong.

FAQ

When is whale watching season in Los Cabos?
Although whales come into the sea as early as November the official date for the beginning of whale watching season in Los Cabos is December 15 and the season goes until April 15.
Can you guarantee whale sightings on this tour?
No we can not guarantee sightings but during January and February there is an extremely good chance of seeing the whales. During these months 9 tours out of 10 will see whales.
What kind of whales will we see in the Sea of Cortez?
Humpbacks are the most common in the Sea of Cortez. They are also the most spectacular of all the whales to watch as they breach and tail slap in the ocean. Other encountered whale species include orca whales which are also seen in the winter. Much less common are Bryde's whales and minke whales.
Can I do this whale watching tour with a private group?
Yes. If you would prefer to experience Cabo whale watching with a private group you can book our Cabo Private Whale Watching tour.
Is this Cabo whale watching tour kid-friendly?
Yes the minimum age requirement for this whale watching tour is 5 years old. Our Luxury Whale Watching in Cabo Cabo Private Whale Watching and Gray Whales Baja Private Encounter tours are also kid-friendly.
How close will the whales get?
While it depends on conditions most of the time we can get to within a few hundred feet of the whales. Our captains will maintain the boat at a safe enough distance for the whales while being close enough for you to enjoy the experience and take lots of amazing photos.
How far off the coast do we go?
For our Cabo San Lucas whale-watching trips we are in constant movement. Because the whales are always moving across the bay we change course to follow them. They are usually found along the coastline between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo but we also go on the Pacific side to find whales.
What type of camera should I bring?
Taking photos of whales can be both exciting and intimidating. It's unlikely you'll time their jump perfectly so a surefire way to persistently capture these majestic creatures on your cell phone is to set your camera's settings to live mode (if you have an iOS) or take photo bursts. If you have more professional equipment it's essential to pair it with a telephoto lens like the 70-200mm. This will help ensure that you get the scale and breadth of each whale. Just make sure to protect yourself your technology and any partners from unexpected splashes of water. Also don’t forget to charge everything!
